Body Fat Calculator
Estimate your body fat percentage using the U.S. Navy circumference method.
About this calculator
This body fat calculator estimates your body fat percentage using the U.S. Navy circumference method, a widely used formula based on simple tape measurements. It is a convenient at-home alternative to expensive clinical tests like DEXA or hydrostatic weighing. The result is categorized into ranges such as Essential, Athletic, Fitness, Average, or Obese to help you understand where you stand.
Field explanations
- Gender
- The formula differs by gender because fat distribution patterns vary. Males and females use different circumference combinations.
- Units
- Choose imperial (inches) or metric (centimeters). Make sure all your measurements match the selected unit.
- Height
- Your total height measured at the tallest point. Stand straight against a wall for best accuracy.
- Neck
- The circumference of your neck measured just below the larynx (Adam's apple), with the tape sloping slightly downward to the front.
- Waist
- The circumference at your natural waist — the narrowest part of your torso, typically at or just above the belly button.
- Hip (women only)
- The circumference at the widest point around your hips and buttocks. This field appears only when female is selected.
